Had a job last week that required reglazing a bathtub. Now every tub is a little different. Some are fiberglass, some are porcelain. Some are old and some are new. This tub was an older porcelain tub that had been reglazed several times before. And it appeared that all of the previous jobs were done right on top of the old, without removing previous layers. When we got there, the bottom was chipping and flaking, and we could see the history of the tub’s glazing like reading the rings of a tree.
It required several rounds of sanding, then paint stripper, then scraping with a flat blade before all of the old layers were removed completely. Then, after a lot of cleaning, sanding and more cleaning, we applied the new glaze. The results were very satisfying.
